Projects

Pentland Edge has been involved in a broad range of projects. Many clients have used our developers to create the “brains” of the application – the algorithms and control aspects of embedded systems. Here are a few examples:

GMTI tracker

Pentland Edge has recently completed the development of a GMTI (Ground Moving Target Indication) tracker. This allows ground-based movement to be tracked from the air. It can be fed with NATO standard Stanag 4607 data from any compatible radar. It runs with low memory and CPU requirements, allowing it to be deployed on a shared platform. Live tracks can be displayed in a web browser when used in conjunction with our Hawkstream Viewer software.

Prototype low-latency digital wireless microphone

The removal of wireless spectrum formerly used by analogue microphones is rendering some existing equipment obsolete. This is providing yet another lease of life for DECT technology. However, in order to achieve the low audio latencies and high quality required for stage performance, some clever manipulation of the DECT slot structure is required. We were recently involved in the development of a prototype system aimed at this application, writing the real-time audio control and communications code and the software to support audio link quality testing.

Next generation airborne radar system

This is an exciting, current development. Unfortunately, restrictions in place prevent further elaboration at present.

Control software for a wireless, remote video entry system

Pentland Edge was proud to work with TES on the development of this award winning system, the Siedle Scope. Our involvement was to create the embedded Linux application software to control the user interface and manage system functions such as video display, DECT call control, the phonebook and calls list. TES are an example of what seems to be a particularly Scottish phenomenon: a low profile engineering company with an enviable export record and a string of successful product designs for global brands.

Speech analysis software

This work is part of an ongoing collaboration with Affective Media Ltd., to develop their innovative technology which can analyse speech to detect and classify emotions present in the recorded voice. Pentland Edge has worked with Affective Media to refine the algorithms and develop the software in order to make the technology feasible on a consumer device such as a mobile phone.

Control software for a children’s electronic game

Funky Moves (of Dragon’s Den fame) has been a client of Pentland Edge since the company was founded 5 years ago. Software for the Funky Cones prototype demonstrated in the Den was developed by our engineers, and the company is delighted to continue to work with Ralf and his team on the latest generation of the product.
